Around here.

Around here, we are eating the heck out of the produce aisle. And acknowledging the fact that a choice we made (puppy) is limiting our freedom of movement. Which is fine - but we're going to have to get a little more creative with our adventures....

Done.

Well, kind of. Not really. Not at all. Nevermind.
As of today, we are officially done with the 2015/16 school year here. And done with Elementary School altogether - which is bittersweet and slightly heart breaking and totally stomach turning. No chance to go back and do that over. Better.
I'm ready though. To move into the next part of my parenting journey. I'm calling this part: teach them to make toast and send them to college. I may also teach them what the branches of government do, when to use a turn signal, and how to be a good boyfriend. The list keeps getting longer. I'll let you know how it goes.

One of my kids just came in to ask when the Cold War was, and whether it was scary for me.

Shadow does not understand why everyone does not want to be friends with her. She is very confused by joggers, cats, and squirrels who do not want to hang out. Also, not everyone wants her to lick their baby. Weird, right?

One more thing - I love these pictures.

Summer Mom.

Kids, Mama, and dog had a semi half holiday last weekend in West Marin and now we are wholeheartedly longing for summer. Three arduous weeks of school left and every minute packed with activity and a year's worth of academic detritus coming home in paper bags.

Summer Mom should be here any minute. She's my favorite. Autumn Mom makes you do your homework and Holiday Mom is a little stressed out, Spring Mom has allergies, but Summer Mom? Is the best. She smells like sunscreen, has a flip-flop tan and takes you to the drive-through for milkshakes when it's too hot in the car. She lets you stay in your pajamas as long as you want; encourages it even. She'll pretty much let you climb up whatever you want. And take your picture. She isn't so strict about what you eat for dinner most nights and when you go to bed. This summer we have a new challenge - dog-friendly adventures.... We'll see how it goes.

So far: She does not love the beach.
