Around here....

Around here, uniforms are blowing up! You've heard about Matilda Kahl, who is a girl AND wears the same thing every day? I know! It's appealing. I'd be delighted to wear the same thing every day if I had a job. And even though I don't, I would wear the same thing everyday if it could be the outfit above.  Perfectly suitable for going into a fourth grade classroom and the fanciest restaurant in Livermore. Which is - admittedly - not such a big stretch.

Around here....

Around here, it's spring and my eyes are itchier than anything in the history of eyes. Or the history of itching. My kids have taken to saying super-unhelpful things (that they learned from me) like: "Try not to rub." and "Do you want me to put some drops in?" In between saying semi-unhelpful things like: "Mama, if you leave all your apps open, you run down the battery." and "Is that what you're gonna wear?"
Last week they asked if Santa Claus is real. They said, "We already know, we just want you to tell us the truth."
I cried. Which? I firmly believe, was the only appropriate response.

On the farm.

In spite of last week's report (Rain!) we are experiencing a slight state of emergency and a mandatory 25 percent reduction in water usage on the farm. My handsome husband has taken to wondering aloud: Why don't we move to Minneapolis? They have water.

Workroom glimpse....

I love zippers - I do!
But, when you try to put one into the top of a tote, things get a little fiddly (fiddly, meaning exactly what it sounds like and in this case - not straightforward, solid sewing) and the results are a little jenky (jenky, meaning exactly what it sounds like and in this case - lumpy, not as attractive or functional as one might hope).
Which? I think (after three weeks and reading every zipper tutorial on the internet) is because we're asking a zipper to do something it was not designed to do, namely - twist. If you know what I'm talking about, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. And if not, thank you for coming along anyway.
Still - there is a finished zip-top, cross-body tote prototype (see below) and you should tell me what you think of it. I'd love to be like: Viola! and tell you how much I adore it, but I'm kind of meh. Which means there's more fiddling to do, and while the final final product may not zip, none of us should give up hope....

with this fantastic post called momentum by Ann Wood (swoon) (art crush). This is all that's keeping me going today.
