Friday: the zoo.

Reticulated giraffe baby! Now I need a nap and some really good soap. Not necessarily in that order.

Wednesday: baseball and ladybug babies.

The ceanothus is full of ladybugs and ladybug larvae. Which gives me a full-body shiver just from typing it. I have to think of them as ladybug babies.

Tuesday: headless rabbits and other things that are not wholly unsatisfactory.

Chocolate rabbits are good. And sweet Samantha over at Vintage is for Lovers is too good to me. Go read. Every word is one hundred percent TRUE!

Half. [Do alphabetized spices make me a better person?]

I threw away half the spices. At least. Then I alphabetized what remained.
I heard a story on the radio last week - and you'll have to bear with me, because I can't find it again - about railway sanitation workers going on strike in Denmark. I think it was Denmark. Anyway, the trash piled up until commuters were literally wading through it. A group of sociologists - being scandinavian and sociologists - saw it as an opportunity! So they surveyed the passengers, asking questions like "How do you feel about Muslims? Homosexuals? the Dutch?" and then repeated the survey after the cleaning crew had returned to work. They found that people were considerably more tolerant of their fellow man in a tidy train station.
What's the difference? I have no idea. Chaos engenders bigotry? The illusion of control eases tension? Do alphabetized spices make me a better person? Possibly.

Friday, I'm in love....

I can't stop eating them. My mouth is watering just from looking at this picture.
In other news: we're not getting a dog. Also, I am the meanest mom in the world. A lengthy interview on the subject reveals that Seamus does not have much in the way of evidence to back up his claim, but this reporter is sure we haven't heard the last of it regardless.

Borrowed dog.

The neighbors have gone to Disneyland, and we are in charge of their beagle puppy until Tuesday. By then we will either have a dog of our own, or we will have figured out why we're not getting one.

Unaccompanied by minors.

This week, the kids are off at Grandma's and I have been sleeping late, running, gardening, working for great uninterrupted stretches in the studio and eating in restaurants. Glorious restaurants. It all feels very very decadent. And it is.
