If at all possible, get thee to Yosemite. It's one of those places in the world that is totally not over-rated. One of those places where one might use the word "awesome" without a trace of irony. I had a sacred one-with-nature sort of experience with the mist of Bridalveil Fall on my face (considering what the first humans who discovered this place must have thought of their good fortune) until a newlywed couple needed to take a selfie in the exact spot where I was standing.
The kids took what was basically a road trip to look at some rocks in stride because the hotel had a pool. We could have stayed at the Radisson in Stockton if it had a pool for all they care. And? They will climb up on almost anything to get their picture taken.
