Around here, my almost-eleven-year-old refers to everything that happened before the year 2000, as "in the nineteen-hundreds." For example: In the nineteen-hundreds, telephones were attached to the wall. Yes, and women got the vote and we had VCRs and hip hop was invented! I know that shouldn't annoy me.
