Around here, the roses have exploded.
Around here, I got my first straight-up "Mom, you're crazy" from my 10-year-old, who did not raise his eyes from Tron: Evolution for this milestone. I'm a little surprised that it took ten years.
Around here, I consider putting clean sheets on a bunk bed an Olympic event. No offense, Ryan Lochte, it's very athletic.
Around here, I am feeling quite full of energy, the very soul of possibility, very Onward. Unafraid to use words not in the way they were intended. It's my favorite part of my mood cycle. (I have always assumed that the mood cycle would flatten out - at least a little - as I got older. It has not. I thought I would have mellowed considerably by now. I have not. If anything, I'm still myself, but more so.)

Friday, I'm in love....

I read The Great Gatsby on an airplane recently and I was captivated. I wanted to start reading it again as soon as I finished. Did you read it in high school? I did - I wasn't ready for it then, but this time! Beautiful and amazing! Now, obsessed with Gatsby imagery, new and old. Obsessed with F. Scott and Zelda. Kind of can't wait for the Baz Luhrmann movie - and kind of dreading it. Do you know what I mean?

Did you know there was a TV movie with Mira Sorvino as Daisy?

Around here, the lilac bloomed and then burned out in about one week. I did laundry times one-billion and got re-elected and started thinking about making strawberry jam.
Also, I'm ready to admit that I have, in no way, passed on the baseball-love gene to my kids. Up until now, I thought they might grow into it. But, they can't make it to the seventh inning stretch no matter how many churros and ice cream bars they eat. It's so confusing.
Still - strawberry jam and baseball? Is it hot in here? (Must be summer mom.)
